BUILDING BLOCKS Early Learning Center is dedicated to the development of the whole child in a unique, 3-prong approach, which sets us apart from other Early Learning programs:
HEALTHY MINDS: By teaching children social, emotional, creative, physical and cognitive skills (including nutritional education) that will equip them with the tools and strategies necessary for optimal growth in each developmental phase of their lives
HEALTHY BODIES: By teaching physical skills that will equip them with the knowledge and tools they need toward leasing a well balanced and physically fit lifestyle (physical education classes taught by teachers, certified in early physical education
HAPPY KIDS: By developing and improving balance, confidence and self-esteem - lifelong qualities young children will retain and use into adulthood
OUR GOAL IS TO EDUCATE YOUR CHILD AND FAMILY IN THE LIFELONG ADVANTAGES BROUGHT BY LEARNING HOW TO LIVE A MENTALLY, EMOTIONALLY, SOCIALLY AND COGNITIVELY BALANCED LIFESTYLE
WHO WE ARE
Building Blocks Early Learning Center is an early care and education center licensed for 58 children, ages 6 weeks to 5 years. The center is licensed through the Department of Public Health, State of Connecticut.
Building Block's population of families, staff and administrators is designed to promote diversity, all from various cultures and ethnic backgrounds, so life within the center's community emulates life outside the center's doors. Children learn to experience similarities and differences within the very population they interact with on a daily basis.
OUR MISSION
This educational program will empower the children within it to have a heightened sense of self that will enable them to be productive within their families and eventually within their communities. The program respects and recognizes the uniqueness of each child, therefore cultural differences are reflected in all aspects of the surrounding environment. The staff combines their vast knowledge of early childhood education while providing a warm and nurturing environment in which each child and adult is able to grow emotionally, socially, cognitively, creatively and physically through their interaction with each other and the relationships formed by doing so.
OUR CURRICULUM
The purpose of our curriculum is to fulfill a child's natural thirst for knowledge with a researched, developmentally appropriate curriculum that provides both the individual child and groups of children with an environment that is suited to all learning styles and multiple intelligences.
OUR GOALS & OBJECTIVES
- To implement the knowledge of child development when creating the physical environment.
- To establish positive working relationships with families.
- To interact with community resources - bringing in the community and sharing it with our children.
- To provide a safe, nurturing environment which ensures the healthy growth and development of each child.
- To stimulate each child by offering physical, emotional, social, cognitive and creative developmentally appropriate activities.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
This program encompasses a variety of philosophies of child development, including the Bank Street philosophy, Reggio Emilio and Jean Piaget. We provide a homelike setting in which children learn through play. Our center uses the positive guidance approach through redirection, teaching problem-solving skills and offering a variety of choices to each child to foster independence within.
